Repair Terms and Conditions

Effective Date: August 5, 2026

These Repair Terms and Conditions apply to diagnostic, repair, upgrade, installation, data-transfer, data-recovery and related services provided by Computer Lab HTX.

By submitting a repair request, delivering a device, approving an estimate, signing an intake form or authorizing work electronically or verbally, the customer agrees to these terms.

A written estimate, invoice or repair authorization may contain additional terms. Where there is a direct conflict, the terms shown on the customer’s signed or electronically approved repair authorization will control for that specific service.

1. Customer Authorization

The customer authorizes Computer Lab HTX to inspect, test and diagnose the submitted device.

The customer also authorizes Computer Lab HTX to:

  • Turn the device on and off
  • Open the device enclosure
  • Disconnect or remove components
  • Run diagnostic software
  • Access the operating system where reasonably necessary
  • Test ports, drives, memory and other hardware
  • Install temporary diagnostic tools
  • Connect the device to a test network
  • Perform reasonable testing before and after repair

No paid repair beyond the approved diagnostic or authorized service will begin without customer approval.

2. Ownership and Authority

The customer confirms that:

  • The customer owns the device or has legal authority from the owner
  • The device is not stolen, unlawfully obtained or subject to an ownership dispute
  • The customer is authorized to request access, diagnosis and repair
  • Information provided about the device is accurate to the best of the customer’s knowledge

Computer Lab HTX may request identification, proof of ownership or additional authorization.

Service may be refused where ownership or authority cannot reasonably be verified.

3. Diagnostics

A diagnostic inspection is intended to identify likely faults and practical repair options.

A diagnostic fee may apply whether or not:

  • The customer approves the repair
  • The device can be repaired
  • Parts are available
  • The problem is intermittent
  • The device has multiple faults
  • The customer decides to replace the device

A diagnostic fee will be applied toward a repair only where the estimate or invoice specifically says so.

Diagnostics are based on the device’s condition and symptoms at the time of inspection. Hidden, intermittent or unrelated faults may not be discoverable during the initial diagnosis.

4. Estimates and Approval

Repair estimates are based on the information available at the time they are prepared.

An estimate may change if Computer Lab HTX discovers:

  • Additional damage
  • Corrosion
  • Previous poor-quality repairs
  • Missing screws or components
  • Counterfeit or incompatible parts
  • Board-level damage
  • Multiple failed components
  • Damage hidden beneath another component
  • A different model or configuration than originally reported

Computer Lab HTX will request approval before performing additional paid work that materially increases the approved estimate.

An estimate is not a guarantee that the device can be repaired.

5. Parts and Special Orders

Replacement parts may be:

  • Original-equipment parts
  • Manufacturer-authorized parts
  • Refurbished original parts
  • Reclaimed original parts
  • New compatible aftermarket parts

The applicable part type will be stated or explained where reasonably possible.

Computer Lab HTX does not claim to be an Apple Authorized Service Provider unless expressly stated in writing.

Special-order parts may require a deposit. Deposits for parts specifically ordered for a customer may be non-refundable after the order has been placed, except where required by law or where the supplier cancels the order.

Removed parts may be retained or recycled by Computer Lab HTX unless the customer requests their return before the repair begins. Parts that must be returned to a supplier or manufacturer for exchange or warranty credit cannot be returned to the customer.

6. Pre-Existing Damage

The customer acknowledges that a device may arrive with pre-existing damage, including:

  • Cracks
  • Scratches
  • Dents
  • Missing screws
  • Broken clips
  • Damaged hinges
  • Loose ports
  • Swollen batteries
  • Corrosion
  • Internal liquid damage
  • Previous repair damage
  • Missing or altered components
  • Worn cables or connectors

Computer Lab HTX may photograph or document the device’s condition at intake.

Opening or testing a previously damaged, corroded, liquid-damaged or poorly repaired device may cause existing damage to become more visible or may cause an already weakened component to fail.

Computer Lab HTX is not responsible for deterioration caused by a pre-existing condition, ordinary wear, hidden damage or a component that was already failing, except to the extent directly caused by negligent work performed by Computer Lab HTX.

7. Data Backup

The customer is responsible for backing up all important data before submitting a device.

This includes:

  • Documents
  • Photographs
  • Videos
  • Email
  • Accounting records
  • Passwords
  • Software licences
  • Browser data
  • Encryption keys
  • Recovery keys
  • Business files
  • Personal files

Repair, diagnosis, malware removal, storage replacement, operating-system work and hardware failure can result in data loss.

Unless data backup or data recovery is specifically listed as an approved service, Computer Lab HTX is not responsible for backing up customer data.

The customer accepts the risk that data may be altered, corrupted or lost during diagnosis or repair, except where the loss results directly from gross negligence or intentional misconduct by Computer Lab HTX.

8. Access Credentials and Privacy

The customer authorizes Computer Lab HTX to access the operating system and customer files only to the extent reasonably necessary to perform the approved service and final testing.

Customers should create a temporary repair password when possible.

Computer Lab HTX will not intentionally inspect unrelated personal content. However, files, names, thumbnails, notifications or other information may become visible during ordinary diagnosis, malware removal, data transfer, recovery or testing.

The customer should change any provided password after the device is returned.

Computer Lab HTX will never require the customer’s online banking password or unrelated financial-account credentials.

9. Data Recovery

Data recovery is an attempt to retrieve accessible data from a damaged, corrupted, failing or deleted storage device.

Computer Lab HTX does not guarantee:

  • That any data can be recovered
  • That all requested data can be recovered
  • That recovered files will open correctly
  • That filenames or folder structures will be preserved
  • That a failing drive will remain operational
  • That recovery attempts will not worsen an existing failure

Storage devices can deteriorate without warning.

The customer authorizes reasonable recovery attempts and acknowledges that additional damage may occur because of the device’s existing condition.

Advanced recovery requiring clean-room work or specialist equipment may be referred to an independent laboratory. No external laboratory work will be authorized without customer approval.

Data-recovery fees may be based on the attempt, labour, recovered data or specialist charges, as stated in the approved estimate.

10. Liquid-Damaged Devices

Liquid damage is unpredictable and may continue to cause corrosion after the device appears to work.

Cleaning or replacing one damaged component does not guarantee that other affected components will remain operational.

A liquid-damaged device may:

  • Fail during inspection
  • Develop additional faults later
  • Lose data
  • Become uneconomical to repair
  • Require repeated repair attempts
  • Stop working without warning

Unless expressly stated on the invoice, liquid-damage service does not include a guarantee against future corrosion or unrelated component failure.

11. Batteries and Safety Risks

Swollen, punctured, overheated or damaged batteries present a fire and safety risk.

Computer Lab HTX may refuse to power on, charge, store or return a battery in an unsafe condition.

An unsafe battery may need to be removed, isolated or recycled. The customer may be responsible for applicable removal, storage or disposal charges.

Battery runtime varies according to age, operating system, device condition and customer usage. A replacement battery warranty covers qualifying defects, not a guaranteed number of operating hours.

12. Software, Malware and Operating Systems

Software repairs may involve:

  • Updates
  • Driver installation
  • Malware removal
  • Startup repair
  • System restoration
  • Operating-system reinstallation
  • User-profile repair
  • Application removal
  • Configuration changes

Computer Lab HTX does not guarantee compatibility with every third-party application, accessory, printer, network or older program after an update or operating-system repair.

The customer is responsible for owning valid licences for software installed on the device.

Computer Lab HTX will not install pirated software, unlawfully obtained licence keys or tools intended to bypass security protections.

Malware removal reduces identified threats but cannot guarantee that every malicious file, hidden account or compromised credential has been eliminated.

Customers should change important passwords after malware-related service.

13. Repair Timeframes

Any completion time provided is an estimate.

Completion may be affected by:

  • Diagnostic complexity
  • Parts availability
  • Supplier delays
  • Shipping
  • Hidden damage
  • Customer approval delays
  • Manufacturer restrictions
  • Specialist referral
  • Testing requirements
  • Events outside our reasonable control

Computer Lab HTX is not responsible for reasonable delays and does not guarantee same-day completion unless expressly confirmed in writing.

14. Limited Repair Warranty

Unless a different warranty is stated on the invoice, qualifying repairs include a 90-day limited warranty beginning on the date the customer is notified that the device is ready for collection.

The limited warranty covers:

  • Defects in parts supplied by Computer Lab HTX
  • Defects in workmanship directly related to the approved repair
  • Recurrence of the same covered fault caused by the repaired component

Computer Lab HTX may, at its option:

  • Reinspect the device
  • Repeat the covered service
  • Replace the covered part
  • Issue a partial or full refund for the covered repair

The warranty does not cover:

  • New or unrelated faults
  • Accidental damage
  • Drops, impact or pressure damage
  • Liquid exposure
  • Fire, heat or electrical surge
  • Theft or loss
  • Misuse or neglect
  • Damage caused by pets, pests or contamination
  • Malware or account compromise
  • Operating-system or software updates
  • Customer-installed software
  • Customer-supplied parts
  • Parts altered or repaired by another person
  • Devices opened after the repair by the customer or another repair provider
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Cosmetic damage
  • Consumable items beyond their stated warranty
  • Problems caused by accessories, chargers or equipment not supplied by Computer Lab HTX
  • Data loss

Warranty service requires the original invoice or another reasonable method of verifying the repair.

The customer must provide Computer Lab HTX a reasonable opportunity to inspect and correct a claimed warranty problem before requesting a refund or arranging repair elsewhere.

Nothing in this section limits rights that cannot legally be excluded.

15. Customer-Supplied Parts

Computer Lab HTX may agree to install a part supplied by the customer.

Customer-supplied parts are used entirely at the customer’s risk.

Computer Lab HTX does not warrant:

  • Compatibility
  • Authenticity
  • Quality
  • Safety
  • Performance
  • Remaining lifespan
  • Supplier claims

Unless otherwise stated, any warranty for a customer-supplied part must be pursued directly with the seller.

Labour charges remain payable if the supplied part is defective, incompatible or does not resolve the reported problem.

16. Payment

Payment is due when:

  • The approved service is completed
  • The customer cancels after chargeable work has begun
  • A non-refundable diagnostic has been completed
  • A special-order part has been ordered
  • The invoice otherwise states payment is due

Applicable taxes, deposits, shipping fees, pickup charges and specialist fees may be added to the invoice.

A device may be held until all authorized charges are paid, to the extent permitted by law.

Customers should raise billing disputes directly with Computer Lab HTX before initiating a chargeback. Fraudulent chargebacks may be disputed using the signed authorization, communications, diagnostic records, photographs and other repair documentation.

17. Cancellation

A customer may cancel before repair work begins but may remain responsible for:

  • Diagnostic fees
  • Work already completed
  • Non-refundable special-order parts
  • Return shipping
  • Reassembly
  • Pickup or delivery costs
  • Supplier cancellation charges

If repair has begun with customer approval, labour already performed remains payable even if the customer later cancels.

18. Pickup and Delivery

Pickup and delivery are offered only when confirmed by Computer Lab HTX.

The customer must provide accurate collection and delivery information and ensure that an authorized adult is available.

Computer Lab HTX may require identification or a collection receipt before releasing a device.

Risk associated with third-party couriers may be governed by the courier’s terms and insurance limits.

The customer must inspect the returned device promptly and report visible delivery damage as soon as reasonably possible.

19. Unclaimed Devices

Computer Lab HTX will make reasonable attempts to notify the customer when a device is ready, when an estimate requires approval or when a device must be collected.

The customer must collect the device and pay outstanding charges within 30 days after final notice unless another arrangement is approved in writing.

Reasonable storage charges may apply after 30 days.

If a device remains unclaimed for 90 days after final notice, Computer Lab HTX may pursue any remedy permitted by applicable law, including continued storage, return shipment, recycling or lawful disposition after any required notices.

This provision does not automatically transfer ownership and does not authorize any action prohibited by applicable law.

The customer remains responsible for approved charges, storage fees and reasonable costs associated with an unclaimed device, to the extent permitted by law.

20. Refusal or Termination of Service

Computer Lab HTX may refuse, suspend or terminate service where:

  • Ownership is disputed
  • The device appears stolen
  • The requested work is unlawful
  • The device contains prohibited material encountered during necessary service
  • The device presents a safety risk
  • The customer threatens or abuses staff
  • Payment or authorization is disputed
  • Required parts or tools are unavailable
  • The repair is outside our technical capability
  • Continuing work may cause unreasonable additional damage

The customer remains responsible for properly authorized work already completed.

21. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Computer Lab HTX is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, including:

  • Lost profits
  • Lost business
  • Missed deadlines
  • Loss of use
  • Loss of opportunity
  • Replacement-device rental
  • Business interruption
  • Loss of data

Except where prohibited by law or where damage results from gross negligence, fraud or intentional misconduct, Computer Lab HTX’s total liability arising from a service will not exceed the lower of:

  • The amount paid for the specific service giving rise to the claim; or
  • The reasonable fair-market value of the device immediately before it was submitted

Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits non-waivable consumer rights.

22. No Manufacturer Affiliation

Computer Lab HTX is an independent computer repair business.

References to Apple, MacBook, Microsoft, Windows, Dell, HP, Lenovo or other manufacturers are used only to identify compatible devices and services.

Computer Lab HTX is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by those manufacturers unless expressly stated in writing.

23. Privacy

Personal information and device data are handled according to the Computer Lab HTX Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these terms.

24. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas.

Any dispute that cannot be resolved directly between the customer and Computer Lab HTX will be handled in a court with lawful jurisdiction in Harris County, Texas, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Before filing a claim, both sides agree to make a reasonable good-faith effort to resolve the dispute directly.

25. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

An invalid provision will be interpreted as narrowly as necessary to make it enforceable where permitted.

26. Entire Agreement

These terms, together with the approved estimate, invoice, repair authorization and Privacy Policy, form the agreement concerning the authorized service.

No verbal statement changes the agreement unless confirmed in writing by Computer Lab HTX.
